Monthly Disaster Preparedness Tip - May 2000

The best advice anyone can give for disaster preparedness is to be prepared. When an emergency occurs, those who have prepared in advance will fare far better than those who are caught off-guard. To help your family survive a disaster, it is important that they have an immediate supply of the essentials required to survive. Probably the most important is a supply of food and water. The SCNDPP has prepared a long list of items that the fully prepared family will have on hand when needed. These items would be awfully hard to come by if you decided to get them all at one time, but with a little planning all of these items can be accumulated over a period of time. The best way to start is to prepare a short list off the grocery items you would need for the first day or so after an emergency.

These items would most probably consist of:

Note - Items marked with an asterisk should be purchased for each member of the family. Purchase these items and store them in a safe place. Also to remember to buy water for family pets, as well as baby food, diapers and other needed baby supplies. Get started on this list now and you can get other supplies on a weekly basis until you are fully prepared for any upcoming disaster.
