The ultimate story of harvesting, cultivation and smuggling of marijuana (Cannabis sativa) on the North American continent. This rare movie was distributed widely on the "college circuit" in the 70's and became a true cult collector's item on VHS. It was widely sold in magazines, including the popular High Times. The film has not been available since its 1977 theatrical release, because the distributor bought all rights and took the film out of circulation immediately following its theater playoff. Acapulco Gold just happens to fit the currently popular "mockumentary" form of filmmaking. It contains lots of humor as apparently-stoned "experts" describe their growing techniques, and suspense as we follow the dangerous exploits of young dealers who try to get around the law by growing and harvesting hemp. One incredible scene shows tens of acres of wild marijuana plants growing alongside railroad tracks in the Midwestern part of the USA. Years ago, when hemp was legal, the plant was grown commercially on farms and shipped by rail for production of rope and other hemp products. During shipment, seeds would shake loose and fall alongside the railroad tracks, where the "weed" would thrive. No amount of cutting or spraying can keep it from returning with every spring rainfall.

This entertaining film follows exploits of some hilarious characters and along the way includes lots of views of marijuana being grown and harvested, gives some insider tips on horticultural skills useful to maximize its potency as a social "high."

The DVD package cover is a full color reproduction of the original artwork for the movie's theatrical release. It was created by popular surf poster and rock music album artist Jim Evans, and is a collector's item in its own right.
