CONTACT: SUELLEN ELM, OWNER, (408) 426-8305, OR: JEAN HANAMOTO, ARTIST, (408) 683-2545, artworks@garlic.com ARTIST SEES BEAUTY IN MEDICINAL MARIJUANA Santa Cruz, CA - Eclectix is a Pacific Avenue store that carries, as it's name implies, many interesting objects d' art, clothing, and jewelry. In November, it will hosted an art show opening that very well may be the first of itÕs kind. Jean Hanamoto's computer-manipulated photographs of the only legal medicinal marijuana garden in California offers a surprising variety of vivid close-ups and lush vistas."Cannabis is a graceful and beautiful herb", said Hanamoto, "In all it's different stages - leaf, bud and harvest - it is a joy to the artist in me". The images appear to be created in many different media, such as watercolor, oil, pencil and pen, but they all started as her original photographs. "I'm doing magic on my Mac!" Hanamoto's husband, George, is an active member of the Santa Cruz group W.A.M.M. (Wo/Men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana). He has been diagnosed with glaucoma, and is using the drug to relieve the pressure on his eyes from the disease that could cause eventual blindness. Part of the proceeds from the sale will go to the organization. "I'm grateful that there is something like WAMM to help out. As a co-op, it supports over 200 people with AIDS, cancer, MS, epilepsy, and other painful human miseries without sales of any kind. The work is entirely volunteer." "Marijuana, The Healing Herb" is an ongoing show at Eclectix, 1319 Pacific Ave., Santa Cruz, CA. For more information, call Eclectix at (408) 426-8305. |
