people are paying attention to them." - Susan Sontag
The Internet is a marvel of modern communications. Data moving at the speed
of light (well, mostly), instant communications with the far corners of the
earth. Unfortunately it is also an open book for most of what you do or say
- even in 'private' e-mail and other messages. Usually many people have an opportunity,
should they wish to do so, to read what you are typing happily into your terminal.
And you all the while thinking solely of the intended recipient as the only
possible reader.
Even the files you save on your own computer are susceptible to anyone who has
access to your system - either physically, over a network or even if a hard
drive should fail and you take/send it in for repair/replacement.
Here are some resources for improving the security of your files and communications.
Use "Copy" in your browser and "Paste" in PGP to add these to your keyrings. For either key, the copy command should include exactly from the first dash in the top line to the last dash on the right in the last line - no more, no less.
Depending on the version of PGP you are using, try installing the larger DH/DSS Key first. If that fails, you are probably using an older version which will only accept the 1024-bit RSA Key. I should be able to decode files or messages encoded with either.
