October 10, 2000: home away from home

Nancy flew back to Iowa for a week for her Master's Thesis defense. She did great -- so well, in fact that her committee's discussion wasn't about whether or not she had earned her Master's Degree, but instead was mostly about what few changes would be needed to get her work ready for publication in a professional journal! Hooray!

While in Ames, Nancy stayed with her best friend Amy and husband Dan, and their children, daughter Sydney and her little brother Jonah, and from the pictures Nancy brought back it looks like they had a great time!

Over the weekend, Amy and Dan had a Congratulations party for Nancy, joined by Amy's mom Patricia and dad Carl, and Amy and Nancy's friends Joan and Irene. (I've met Patricia, but not Carl yet, and you may remember Irene and Joan from a web page from two years ago). I'm sorry I couldn't get away from work go along, but since we're flying back again for the holidays and Nancy's graduation (yay!), hopefully I'll get a chance to see everyone then.
