WHY PLAYS?

I'm a California playwright with a quirky global perspective and a long writing life as an award-winning poet, journalist, literary non-fiction writer, and historian.

Why do I write plays? I'd stop if I could! I feel called to bear witness to my unbearably interesting times, and to the mysteries of human existence. I like re-arranging words and events to see whether I can bring another reality to life. The collaborative nature of theatre is nourishing. And the Bay Area is a fine place to develop, attend, and enjoy new theatre.
