The Internet is a new technology. We need to create a new way of thinking to produce new art works with this new technology in new ways through the process of communication. This is the real connect between art, science and technology.
To arrive at a new art form our students will explore 4 processes to produce this art.
1. Free production through passages of paper to scanner, scanner through the Internet to art application to manipulate the image and return it through the Internet
Example:
American students will create poems about water. They will send these poems connected with photographic images to the Brazilian students via email or web pages. The Brazilan students will illustrate the poems using paper, paint, pencil... They will scan their pictures using Photo Impact and send them to the American student using and Internet based editing software called eMotion by Creative Partner. The American students will, then use Photoshop to edit the pictures and send them back to to Brazilian students.
2. Research and analysis to interpret contemporary American and Brazilian artists who have worked with the new media and the water theme.
Example: Students will interview artists either in person of via email to discover how they think about art and how to produce this new art. Students will share this information with the other students via email and posting of artworks on the Internet or sharing of URL's that contain this art.
3.Synthesis
Example:Students will decide what art to create, and how to create it using the Internet and new technological media. They will, then create their works of art on the water theme, and share those works with the other students in both countries and with the new artists working in this media. Students will post their artwork on the Internet so that all who are interested in their art can share it, creating a virtual interactive artwork space on the Internet.
4. Evaluation
Example: The students and teachers will compare the three ways of working with art using the Internet.
Paper/scanner
Graphic software
Computer manipulation of photographs
They will explore the possibilities and limits of this new media and use the Internet to share their observations and artistic experiences. They will reflect on how artists are collaborating and can collaborate with scientists to improve the environment.
