The American school and the Brazilian school have begun their project in October 1997 (Phase I). That will continue in November (Phase II)1997 The American School will begin their Jason Project research in January, 1998 The actually Water Pollution project will begin in March, 1998 until September of 1998 . The American Students will end the major part of their research and multimedia projects in June, 1998 due to their summer holiday.

1997
Phase 1
October:
On line self-introduction for students ; planning the mutual project between the teachers the both countries online via the Internet and email;

Establish the necessary and available equipment ( hardware and software)for electronic communication and multimedia production.

November until middle of December:
Introduce students to water theme;

Explore what the students know and what they want to know about water

Why is water important to us?

What if we had no water?

What images (pictures) of water have impressed you?

paintings

photographs

poetry

Cycles ( water, seasons, etc....)

Personal stories about their involvement with water

Begin determining evaluation criteria for student projects
First meeting of teachers in Israel.

ASTL Workshop to learn about Project Based Learning

Collaboration between teachers to refine project plans

Middle
December until end of January:
Brazilian teachers' holidays
American Winter break (2 weeks) American students will be working on other related projects.

1998
February:
Teachers the both countries plan the activities with research in
magazines, books and central multimedia laboratories.
American Students participate in Jason Project Research

March-April:

Students will classify the projects and begin developing them.

Students will begin to think of water as an object

ART

How, where and in what ways have artists represented our water in the past and present (what is the difference) and how might artist represent water in the future

Example: Romantic vision is different than reality.

SCIENCE/MATH

3 stages of matter

Data collection on kinds of water pollution

Organisms

Nitrates

Turbidity

Dissolved Oxygen

SOCIAL STUDIES

Social/political context of water in society and the relationship of that to art and science

Where is is water coming from, how does it get to us...

Types of water systems (rivers, lakes, streams, creeks, seas, oceans, bays...)

How we get our water...plumbing (pipes), wells, from rivers, lakes, Pumps,

Which are our articles that working with the element of water

Trash

Satellite images

What were our rivers, lakes, and sea like in the past?

What has caused floods at different times in history?

Nature and Man made

Which are natural, and which are because of man?

Is there a difference in the effect?

How does water support the flora and fauna of a region

How is this different in different region?

How do changes in the water affect the flora and fauna?

Geography/Cartography

Creation of Internet based time progression overlay maps of the Brazil water basin and the San Jose/Bay Area over time.

Both Edenvale and Idalina students will begin their research about
global and local water pollution problems This will include general
learning about the past inundation and others catastrophes; study of the
past artists that showed the rivers or sea in their art works;
introduction to laboratory work (art, physics and chemistry);

Edenvale students will begin National Geographic Society Kids Network
