Traditionally
this is the way we were taught and the way many of us still teach.
Global
project based learning allows us to engage our students and ourselves
in the learning process through the joy of constant discovery and
surprise, and by allowing both students and teachers to be life-long
learners. The teacher not only becomes a facilitator of learning who
guides and points students to appropriate resources and information,
but also a co-learner. In the global project based learning model
learning is not the memorization of facts for a test. It is hands
on and exciting. The teacher, while planning and guiding learning,
must be open to the surprise that comes from working with and learning
with others in a collaborative environment. Together teachers and
students involved in the project solve problems, share learning, and
plan next steps.
Look
at the chart below. On the left the teacher imparts knowledge to the
student. On the right the teacher is a co-learner, guide, and facilitator
of learning. What are the implications of this new model for assessing
student learning?
