Pyramids of Dahshur

There are five pyarmids at Dahshur. The Pyramid of Sesostris III (Senusert) was built in 1840 BC. The Pyramid of Amenemhet II was built ca 1900 BC. The Pyramid of Amenenhet III and the two Pyramids of Snefru, prededecessor of Khufu are found at the Dahshur site

Rhomboidal Pyramid of Snefru

Also know as the "Bent Pyramid". This pyramid hourse two chambers with corbelled vaulting similiar to the vaulting in the Great Pyramid of Khufu in Giza

To enter the pyramid you must climb up the steps on the side of the pyramid. The entrance tunnel is about 4 ft high and slopes fairly steeply downward. Standing alone inside the vaulted chamber is an awesome experience--the silence, the height, the incredible internal vaulting...

 

 

Date Palms on the Eastern Shore of the Nile River Valley

In contrast with the dry desert in the "World of the Pyramids on the western bank of the Nile, the eastern bank which has traditionally been the flood plain is rich, fertile agricultural land.
