Memphis was the first capital of a unified Egypt when Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt were unified under Narmer.

Grounds of the Museum at Memphis

The ancient capital of Menufer was named Memphis by the ancient Greeks. . The city may have been built by the architect Imhotep.

 

 

Alabaster Sphinx of Amenophis II

This is the largest estant sphinx carved by a single block. It is 4.5 m high and 8 m long. It was found at the entrance to the Temple of Ptah.

 

Ramses II

The Colossus statueof Ramses II stood in fromt of a pylone of hte temple of Ptah. Two statues were found there. Each stature of Ramses II was 12 m high. The other stature of Ramses II stands in front of the railroad station in Cairo.
