THE COLONEL'S CACHE Post WW1 Headgear Page (last updated 03 February 2012)

Item HG01- Very nice tan/khaki USMC enlisted cap. The contract date stamp is smeared but I am pretty sure it is 1943. Anyway, the cap has a nice clean visor and chinstrap. The cover is quite soild. I ams sure someone can clean it up. The sweatband is in place and coming unstitched at the front. Size tag makes it a size 7. Period EGA. No rips, tears or holes. --$75--

Item HG02- Cadet bell crown cap. While it has period West Point buttons and insignia, it does not say Cadet Store on the inside so I do not think it is actually West Point. However, it is a nice bell crown style cadet cap. Missing the sweatband but no mothing or other issues. --$59--

Item HG03- Unused US Coast Guard enlistedman's visor cap. Still in the original plastic bag. Size 7 1/8. Nice cap.... --$29--

Item HG04 - US Navy officer's white visor cap. Post WW2. Visor has some cracking but will look good if polished. Insignia looks to be sterling and is on a newer band. Cover is a bit dingy but should clean up with a wash. Chinstrap looks new. Frame is not marked but the cover is sized as a 7 1/4. Hat sweatband is marked "ALCO Brand." Overall, a nice displayable cap. --$57--

Item HG05-1950s-60s USN Commander or Captain's white visor cap. This is a rare Bancroft "Packable" cap. It has a flexible visor and collapsable top to allow for easy packing of the cap. Has a newer insignia on the front. A unique cap. --$89--

Item HG07 - WW2 enlisted man overseas caps with branch piping. These are all free of moth damage. Do not ask for sizes, they fit well on a Styrofoam head for display. From left to right starting at the top: Signal Corps, Military Police, Engineer, Medical, Air Corps, Transportation Corps, Artillery --$15 each --

Item HG08 - WW2 enlisted man cotton khaki overseas caps. Do not ask for sizes, they fit well on a Styrofoam head for display. From left to right starting at the top: Artillery, quartermaster, engineer, infantry, signal corps, military police, medical, officer (stain where someone glued an airborne patch). --$15--

Item HG09-Pre WW2, probably 1930s, wool US Army enlistedman's cap. No mothing and it has a solid visor and chinstrap. One of the small grommets on the side has come out but other than that, there is no damage, holes or mothing to the cover. Stamped as made by "Pancraft" in Los Angeles. The sweatband is coming loose. Thin wire spreader as typicle of the 1930s caps. No size marked. Fits well on a styrofoam head. --$39--

Item HG11- WW2 enlistedman's visor cap. Not sure of the size but it is about 21 1/4 inches around at the sweatband. No rips, tears or moth damage. Sweatband is coming loose in the back. Visor is the classic WW2 style like an officer's cap. Nice for display or wear. --$49--

Item HG12- Here is a nice WW2 officer's visor cap. Made by Marshall Field, this cap is in very nice condition. No rips, tears or stains. The top has some very, very minor moth tracking that is so minor it does not photograph. These are little spots not real tracks. No way is this a detraction from wear or display. Tag indicates it is a size 7 1/4. The sweatband is almost totally separated but sits inside well from years of display on a styrofoam head. Very nice example with an early war hat insignia marked "ACID TEST" on the back. Nice makers stamping in the inside. --$139--

Item HG13- USAF Academy blue cadet cap with insignia. Has the nice visor, chin strap and sweatband. Missing the rear strap. Not a biggie. Marked as a size 7, this hat is in very nice condition. --$29--

Item HG14- Here is another USAF Academy cadet cap. This is the white parade dress hat. Complete with both straps and insignia. Marked as a size 7 1/8. Has some dark scuffing on the cover that may clean up some. --$29--

Item HG16-Very nice USMC wool, WW2 forest green garrison hat. Marked under the sweatbad as a size 7 1/4. Visor is in good condition, top and bottom. Has the chinstrap (some wear at the end) and side buttons. No rips, tears or stains at all. There is a slight bit of moth damage on the very top. It has a whicker frame and wire cover stretcher. The sweatband is supple and fully stitched. EGA looks period to me but I am not an expert. --$69--

Item HG17- US Army officer's green service hat. This has the bullion wire "scrambled eggs" on the visor and was worn by officers ranking from Major thru General. Some of the bullion wire is loose, not a big detraction. No rips, tears or moth damage. No size marked but my guess is it is a 7 1/8. --$39--

Item HG18- Nice clean US Air Force mess dress hat. Comes with both white and black covers. Heavy bullion on the visor and bullion chin strap.Made by Flight Ace, it is a size 7 1/4. --$75--

Item HG20-Sweet US Army Engineer field grade officer’s dress blue visor cap. This is made in Japan and has wounderful bullion oak leaves on the visor. The buttons are also Japanese. The hat is marked as a size 6 3/4. The Engineer Corps branch trim is also bullion, not nylon. Matching bullion chin strap. No rips, tears or staining and the sweatband is firmly in place. Very nice hat at a fraction of the original price. --$75--

Item HG21- 1950s-60s, German made US Army field grade officer's dress blue cap. This has the yellow trim for an armor officer. Shows use and slightly out-of-round but displays well and would wear well also. No size marked but looks like about a 7 to me. Nice bullion on the visor and no rips or tears. Smells a bit smokey though. --$65--

Item HG22- Very nice Infantry field grade officer's dress blue hat. Wounderful bullion on the visor. No problems with this cap at all. Made by Art Caps, it is a size 7 1/2. --$75--
