Symons' Treasure Jenni

Ch Symons' Treasure Jenni AKC UDT CGC BKC/CKC CD TDI

As I look back on the last eleven years there was great excitement when Jessi had her second litter of eight puppies. This time we made a choice between two girls. We lucked out as Jenni never disappointed us.

Jenni was such a sweet girl at all times except the one incident with Dixxi. She had a quiet way about her and wasn't pushy like her sister. She was always polite and an attribute to all and to our wonderful breed. She had full dentition, a lovely carriage and a was always eager to learn.

Her show career began in Bermuda where she earned several championship points, her CD and one leg on her CDX. But Jenni never went back to Bermuda to complete her titles as this was 1990 - our last trip there.

Jenni traveled to Canada where she also leaves CH points plus her CD and two legs on her CDX.

She did her obedience like a trooper earning her CD in three trials and her CDX in four trials. Utility took a bit longer and she easily made that security leg.

In the meanwhile at home all was 'hail-and-hardy' until one day she decided the friendship with her sister, Dixxi, was over. She had been friends and made friends with everyone else all her life. She and her late brother, Jeff, were great pals. Today, she and Toro are constantly together. Jenni and Kelli, Dixxi's litter sister, were always inseparable.

1996 took Dick and Sue to the National in Michigan with Izzi. Jenni in order to avoid conflict with Dixxi during that trip spent her time at Grasers' with Kelli. House guests showed up one evening who were camping at the beach and it began to pour. There were no latch on one gates on one side of the backyard which previously had been no problem. The back screen door didn't latch the following morning and both girls were gone. Kelli went home, but Jenni was gone. We got a phone call about this at the National but were scheduled to return home the next morning.

500 flyers with Jenni's photo in color were distributed, two news paper ads and a week later a young lady called Jim that Jenni had come to them lured with food. She had been transported from west to east San Jose and had been running in the hills and was hungry. She had been spotted by friends earlier in the week. Also, Dale Nakishima with Molly and a friend of hers and her dog one evening and Dale, Molly, Dick and Jeff had attempted tracking Jenni near the Graser home. We realized she had been picked up in a vehicle. Our guess is that she had a chance to get loose and ran. This was the early days of micro chipping and Jenni only had a tattoo with my social security number. We have a kill shelter here in Santa Clara County which meant we had to check no more than every 48 hours. Dick had left for Southern California with Dixxi for a tracking test and Jim walked in the house with Jenni at 10:00 P.M. that evening. This young lady received a very nice reward.

Dick and Jenni began their tracking career at a great pace . Unfortunately like her mother, Jessi, she was ready for to be entered for her TDX. This dream wasn't to come true for them. I hope some day Dick will complete a TDX. (This was accomplished in 1994 with Izzi.)

Dixie Rae Perry took Jenni into conformation and within a few months completed her championship between tracking practice.

Jenni decided herding wasn't for her as an older girl so she attended two of Peggy Clark's agility classes that summer. The first time in her life she was telling me what she liked.

Ball and Frisbee were great fun, but had to remember that she was left handed.

Jenni never had puppies as Dixxi and Kelli had more than their share of time and by then Jenni was too old. I truly feel cheated by a lack of her wonderful legacy.

And so my dear friend as we lay you to rest, I hope all those who knew you and loved you will remember you with sweet and kind thoughts as I have always done.

Your therapy work at Saint Louise Hospital and my special lady at the convalescent home will always be appreciated and you will be sadly missed.
