Franni was from Dixxi's second litter. We hadn't kept a dog from her first litter and she was cute as a bug as a puppy and had an absolutely gorgeous head and ear set. She was great with people, had full dentition and because by then we had too many dogs didn't get the attention she should have had as a young pup. She became quite spooky with certain people, but men inparticular. Franni was a sweet heart with those she knew and loved, but didn't do well with men who were strangers.
When time permitted I trained her in obedience and Dick trained her for conformation. She was shown several times in conformation and was pointed, but unfortunately when fully grown had a poor front and never got her majors. Sue had a very easy time teaching her obedience and she was eventually totally trained except for the bar jump. She was even reliable at home.
Dick and Sue both showed Franni in novice and she earned her CD in four trials. When it came time to put her in open for her CDX she refused to go near others in unfamiliar surroundings and was eventually retired. Sue would have continued, but there were other dogs who were younger who needed to be trained at that time.
During her younger years she went and lived with friends for about a year and was so spoiled that it took many months to undo the damage. They adored her, but I wanted my little girl back.
By this time she had aged a bit more we were able to have her pass her TDI and she became a pet therapy dog at the hospital. She didn't go full time as most of our other dogs, but Dick will alternate and use her on a periodic basis. She did well there and the patients loved her.
Franni was always a special girl for Sue, but never accomplished or received the accolades from others that favored our other dogs. She lived to be fifteen and was the oldest Belgian Tervuren we've ever owned except for her dam, Dixxi.
