TDI Evaluation/Testing

There are few TDI Tests with few Evaluations at each test and many teams eager to participate in Pet Assisted Therapy. Before you schedule your test, please take a minute to consider:

1.         Are you familiar with the testing requirements ( http://tdi-dog.org/tditesting.html ).

2.         Are you familiar with the registration requirements ( http://tdi-dog.org/requirements.html ).

3.         Are you and your dog ready to take the test.

4.         You have 90 days to submit the necessary documentation and fees to TDI after passing the evaluation. Without the TDI badge, your dog is NOT a TDI dog.

5.         TDI is not another title - it is a privilege to share your dog with the sick.

6.         If you pass, how and where will your team participate.

7.         NEITHER THE DOG’S CERTIFICATION, NOR YOUR VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION IN TDI, IS TO BE USED BY YOU FOR ANY PERSONAL OR FINANCIAL BENEFIT, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE MISUSE OF THE TDI CERTIFICATION: AS AN AKC TITLE; TO GAIN ACCESS TO PUBLIC ACCOMMODATIONS (OTHER THAN THERAPY FACILITIES) WHICH ARE NOT GENERALLY ACCESSIBLE TO DOGS (THIS INCLUDES AIRLINES, BUSES, ETC); FOR THE SALE OF DOGS; OR THE UNAUTHORIZED USE OF TDI’S NAME OR LOGO.

Required for the TDI Evaluation/Testing

1.          Clean/groomed dog.

2.          Nails cut.

3.          Dog License.

4.          Proof of current inoculations.

5.          Dog brush or comb.

6.          Dogs must be tested on a buckle collar and a leash that will allow slack when working.

7.          Correct fee - $5.00 which will be submitted to TDI with the Evaluation Summary. Other costs may be charged by SCDTC.

Do’s and Don’ts for TDI Testing

1.          You may not use a pinch collar, spike collar, shock collar, etc. - only a flat buckle collar may be used.

2.          You may talk to your dog at all times.

3.          No food in the ring except by the tester during the food refusal test.

4.          Elimination in the ring is NON-qualifying.

5.          You may repeat commands 2 to 3 times.

6.          No lead corrections permitted. No unduly rough handling.

7.          You may not yell at your dog or give overly loud commands.

8.          A child will be present and participate in the TDI Evaluation. You must have FULL CONTROL of your dog when the child is present in the test area - anything less than full control will result in immediate termination of the TDI Evaluation.
