Generator Loads

Generators convert the rotational energy from a turbine into electricity. These loads can be found on flat car, depressed center flat cars or schnabel cars, depending on thier size.

Large General Electric Generator

Need a couple of large generator loads for my big General Electric depressed flat cars. The is modeled after a photo of a W86 generator that I saw on line. I commissioned this load as I come up to speed on 3D design. The load is designed into multiple pieces to make printing eaiser and faster. Printed on my Elegoo Saturn 8K printer, and after painting finished with custom decals.

Large  General Electric Generators

Need a couple of large generator loads for my big General Electric depressed flat cars. This load has been on my list to build since before I started with 3D printing. One of the photos that I have show the GE logo raised on the side of the generator. It was designed using TinkerCAD, and able to get the raised logo. Just like the load above, this one is also designed in multiple pieces to make printing eaiser and faster. Printed on my Elegoo Saturn 8K printer, and after painting finished with custom decals.

Smaller  General Electric Generators

My smaller flat cars need some generators as loads.  These smaller generators could be seen coming out of GE on eight axles flat cars.   These were designed for me and I printed them.   Took a couple of prints to get them right.

Athearn Generator

When Athearn release the heavy duty flat car as a ready to roll one, it came with a generator. Athearn does not sell individual loads. The load can be easily removed, some cars have the load glued on, and there are four small wire pins to align the load to the flatcar. The hold downs were cut off then a mold was made and extra generators were cast. Decals are being printed for the generators that will have the Westinghouse logo, lift mounts, and do not hump signs.

Modified Athearn Generator

Worked to dress up the Athearn HD flatcar generator load with new end caps from Keystone Details Shapeways shop. The end caps are designs to go on a generator body, and the alignment pieces need to be sanded off. The resin generators have their ends cut off and have been removed and are now ready for the Shapeways ends.

Fleischmann Generator

The Fleischmann eight axle depressed flatcar came with a generator load. The generator load in the initial version was made out of a funny cast material The later version is plastic. It started to crumble as I was drilling a hole for a hold down magnet. These will be labeled with Westinghouse logos.

Westinghouse Turbo Generator

This is a 3D printed load. The Westinghouse generator load was originally shipped on the PRR Queen Mary 16 axle flat car. This load is available in Keystone Details Shapeways shop. This type of generator is usually shipped on either a flatcar or a depressed center flatcar.
