Got a problem on the trails or an issue.  Trail maintenance, user conflict, even a good job done by Parks or others.  Let your voice be heard,  Send in a report using the
LBHA TRAIL COMMENT FORM.
This will make a permanent record of all incidents happening on
our trails - both conflicts as well as the good things.  Also lease report other things such as bees, bears, sink holes, high water, down trees, trails closed, bridges out or anything dangerous on the trail.

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Oh Boy! Spring is just around the corner. The trees are in full bloom and the grass is growing like crazy. I hope all of you are getting out and enjoying the sporadic sunshine and soaking in that good Vitamin D.

It’s been a very busy month for LBHA. Among other local trail and equestrian community plans, we had our Loomis Town Mayor, Gary Liss to our meeting in February. He is putting together a project for an equine rescue right in the town of Loomis and was excited to share his thoughts and tentative plans. Gary will be presenting his package to the Bank owning the property on Horseshoe Bar Road behind the “Park and Ride” in hopes that they will allow “simple and temporary” use of the property while it is being offered for sale. He asked us for a letter of support which we furnished and you may view in our March Newsletter. We invited  NorCal Equine Rescue to the meeting to tell us a little about themselves and their organization. They will be running the res-cue, are a non-profit organization and accept and appreciate do-nations. (more info in the Newsletter)

I’d like to remind everyone that drives these country roads and/or pulls a horse trailer to be very careful. I witnessed a bicyclist hit by a truck while crossing the road on a blind turn in Newcastle. We do share the roads. Please be respectful and “watch out for the other guy.” Now off you go. Saddle up and hit the trails! Then come home and mow. Priorities first.

 Denise

TRAIL ISSUE:

The Pioneer Express Trail, because of its narrowness, lack of escape routes for passing, lack of sight lines, steepness, and extreme danger to anyone pushed off the trail, has always been designated a hiker/equestrian footpath only. This is a fair rule.Ted Jackson, Superintendent of Folsom Lake SRA, emailed this week, "There have been no changes made to the rules and regulations regarding the Pioneer Express Trail.  All prohibitions remain in force." 1. Nicely correct them, and say the Superintendent of the Park has clarified the rules this week because of information that was given out  in error.  2. Show the bikers the closest place they may exit the trail, or turn them around so they may go back the way they came. Ask them to walk their bikes so they present less of a danger to other trail users who do not expect them. After they are gone, call Dispatch so if the Rangers are in the area, they can warn them at the trailhead. 3. If you encounter resistance, please call the Dispatch numbers on your Park Watch card immediately. DO NOT ARGUE OR CONFRONT, even though you are right. 4. If they threaten you, call 911 and stay on the line until you feel comfortable. Take a cell phone picture. Try to remember identifying information, or record it or text into your phone .  Don't forget to report any incidents on the trail on the

LOOMIS BASIN TRAILS TASK FORCE INFO

The LBTTF is gathering as much information as possible about existing and potential trails in the Loomis Basin. The group is open to all trail users, not just horsemen. We will be presenting this information and a detailed map to Placer County in September as part of the County's study of trails policy.. The Loomis Basin needs a trails system which is linked and provides safe, enjoyable walking and riding for our community. The vision is a network of "Rural Sidewalks" for all of us to use and enjoy. This is a HUGE opportunity to help create such a system. Mapping and describing an existing or potential trail makes it far more likely that the trail will be created by the County, the Town, developers and willing easement donors. If they don't know it's there, it's not likely to happen. Please share your favorite trails and trail proposals 1. If you are now riding, walking or running a trail which may not be mapped 2. Know of a potential trail that might create a nice "loop" if a segment was added 3. Know of a trail which provides an alternate or separated route to busy roads 4. Know of a trail which provides access to a location like schools, stables, parks, parking and staging areas, local businesses , homes etc. 5. If you can suggest feasible trails which would serve any of these purposes Please fill out form and then hit the Send by Email button. You can also save the file, then attach it to an e-mail to lbha@vfr.net. Lastly you may print the form and then mail it to Loomis Basin Trails Task Force 9217 Los Puentes Rd, Newcastle CA 95658 or fax it to 916-663-3417
