PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Gosh how the summer flies by.  It seems that just as the weather gets nice,  it quickly turns hot and then the Tevis Cup 100 mile ride is here and suddenly kids are getting things in order to go back to school.

We’ve had some good LBHA meetings this summer and have a couple more planned for our Public Arena and members will have a chance to bring their own horses and join in some education and fun.

Our Annual horse show is October 8th and 9th so mark your calendars for that.  We’ve got judges, announcers and some volunteers lined up but are still looking for more volunteers.  If you’d like to help, Katie Carter would love to hear from you.

I was driving through the canyon the other day and followed several horse trailers that made a right at the fire station to saddle up and ride the trails back in that area.  If you’ve never been, it’s a real treat.  There are miles of trails and it’s an easy terrain.  Just use caution driving through the canyon.  The road is being worked on and does slow to a stop near the top but doesn’t hold you up for long.

Next week I’ll be taking a “maiden voyage” on my show horse through our Traylor Ranch trails.  My horse is strictly a show horse and at 9 years of age I think he ought to be well rounded.  You think?  It should be an interesting trip.  I’m hoping he can enjoy it as much as I know I will.  Get ready Latte’.

A little reminder that it is fire season so please watch your mowers and weed eaters for sparks.  We’ve seen many fires started from mowers in dry grass so please, please use extra care when doing pasture work.

Happy Trails to you!…

TRAIL ISSUE:

The Pioneer Express Trail, because of its narrowness, lack of escape routes for passing, lack of sight lines, steepness, and extreme danger to anyone pushed off the trail, has always been designated a hiker/equestrian footpath only. This is a fair rule.Ted Jackson, Superintendent of Folsom Lake SRA, emailed this week, "There have been no changes made to the rules and regulations regarding the Pioneer Express Trail.  All prohibitions remain in force." 1. Nicely correct them, and say the Superintendent of the Park has clarified the rules this week because of information that was given out  in error.  2. Show the bikers the closest place they may exit the trail, or turn them around so they may go back the way they came. Ask them to walk their bikes so they present less of a danger to other trail users who do not expect them. After they are gone, call Dispatch so if the Rangers are in the area, they can warn them at the trailhead. 3. If you encounter resistance, please call the Dispatch numbers on your Park Watch card immediately. DO NOT ARGUE OR CONFRONT, even though you are right. 4. If they threaten you, call 911 and stay on the line until you feel comfortable. Take a cell phone picture. Try to remember identifying information, or record it or text into your phone .  Don't forget to report any incidents on the trail on the

LOOMIS BASIN TRAILS TASK FORCE INFO

The LBTTF is gathering as much information as possible about existing and potential trails in the Loomis Basin. The group is open to all trail users, not just horsemen. We will be presenting this information and a detailed map to Placer County in September as part of the County's study of trails policy.. The Loomis Basin needs a trails system which is linked and provides safe, enjoyable walking and riding for our community. The vision is a network of "Rural Sidewalks" for all of us to use and enjoy. This is a HUGE opportunity to help create such a system. Mapping and describing an existing or potential trail makes it far more likely that the trail will be created by the County, the Town, developers and willing easement donors. If they don't know it's there, it's not likely to happen. Please share your favorite trails and trail proposals 1. If you are now riding, walking or running a trail which may not be mapped 2. Know of a potential trail that might create a nice "loop" if a segment was added 3. Know of a trail which provides an alternate or separated route to busy roads 4. Know of a trail which provides access to a location like schools, stables, parks, parking and staging areas, local businesses , homes etc. 5. If you can suggest feasible trails which would serve any of these purposes Please fill out form and then hit the Send by Email button. You can also save the file, then attach it to an e-mail to lbha@vfr.net. Lastly you may print the form and then mail it to Loomis Basin Trails Task Force 9217 Los Puentes Rd, Newcastle CA 95658 or fax it to 916-663-3417
