PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Plenty of cool, dry weather for riding, but the hills already tell us that the lack of rain speaks to an early summer…but for now, have you seen the fields of lupins out around the lake? This is why people trail ride… Our April meeting had a good turnout to hear expert farrier Blake Brown talk about hoof care, and the way horses’ feet respond to damp. Feet and feed are two areas where there are still many mysteries and misconceptions, so it is always good to hear from a noted expert and have a chance to ask questions. For the upcoming meeting on May 21st, we’ll all be at the arena for a hands-on demonstration by Dr. Bill McKean, who will show us some equine chiropractic techniques and give pointers on anatomy, deviations from “good” posture, etc. The program begins at 6:00! Traylor Ranch work days have begun, check out the schedule – the County has been very helpful, but there is always a bit more to do! HORSE SHOW COMMITTEE – we are beginning the process and many thanks to our volunteers, especially the new members who stepped up to help. Guy

NEXT LBHA MEETING  May 21, -
William (Bill) C. McKean D.C.

We have an outstanding speaker scheduled for the May 21st meeting.  Bill McKean, a board qualified Chiropractic Orthopedist who works on both people and horses, will be doing a demonstration at the LBHA arena.  The meeting will start at 6:00 p.m. and he will be examining 2 to 3 horses.  He will be explaining the biomechanics of the horse – what you should see when you first look at a horse.  He will also be talking about the basic anatomy, how deviations from good anatomy affect the way a horse travels and what stretches can be used to aid a horse’s performance.  Bill will be passing out a 7 page brochures with information about his demonstration.  It should be an interesting and informative evening.  Come and learn and bring a friend.  Bill has an office in Roseville at 930-B Douglas Boulevard.   His office phone number is (916) 784-1117.  He adjusts people in his office but does farm calls when working on horses.  Having personal experience with both my body and my horse’s body, I can vouch for Bill’s expertise!

LBHA  HORSE SHOW  Oct 11 and 12, 2008

The 2008 Benefit Horseshow is coming up again. Hopefully it will be another huge success.  LBHA generated over $3500  last year in sponsorships to be distributed between the Trail/Arena Fund and Traylor Ranch Fund. We hope we will do better this year.   Check our the LBHA Horseshow Page for sponsors of this great show.
